About the Author
My name is Randy “Skip” Skripac, and I love golf. A lot.
I have been obsessed since I was a small nine year old who’s only trips to the course occurred when I pestered my father enough to take me at sunrise. We would tee off early to not bother anyone with my slow play (although looking back on it, we definitely held up some weekend warriors looking to get in a two and a half hour round before breakfast). I vividly remember breaking 100 for the first time, breaking 90 for the first time, and my first eagle, all of which occurred with Dad. I’m not quite sure that there’s any feeling in sports quite like the dopamine hit one receives after flushing a long iron in the center of the face or hearing the ball rattle in the cup, and I have Dad to thank for the times I’ve been able to experience these.
Through childhood and into my adolescence, I grew much closer to the game of golf due to my nearly microscopic stature. Entering high school below 100 pounds and equipped with a bench press of even less, I opted for the golf course in the fall instead of the football field. After starting my competitive career with a 123 at the same course I broke 100 at for the first time three years prior, I gained a newfound respect for tournament competition.
Four years of mediocre high school golf later, I attended the Ohio State University (for computer science, certainly not for any golf skills), where I would eventually land a job at their Scarlet Course. Around here at the ripe old age of twenty-one, I fell in love with even more than the sparsely populated good/acceptable shots in my rounds. Manicuring a professional golf course, witnessing pros putt on a green that I mowed, and watching the course become a safe haven for everyone during a global pandemic, pushed me from golf enjoyer to golf sicko.
That’s me. A golf sicko that plans on capturing the beauty I find in this silly game. I know that normal people won’t relate to Skip’s Chips, but I never, ever , claimed to be normal. I’m probably about as “normal” as the game of golf.
